Sheikh Talal al-Baz was born in 1959 CE in Qalqilya. He grew up in a religious family. He studied at the Murabiteen School for his elementary and preliminary education, but then dropped out to support his poor family; thus, he reluctantly worked with one of his relatives in the occupation authorities in the dyeing industry. He was the representative of the Islamic Resistance Movement in Qalqilya and a member of the National and Islamic Forces Committee.

From Muslim Brotherhood to Hamas

The mujahid martyr joined the Muslim Brotherhood in the early 1980s and was one of its prominent members who strove day and night to spread the call of truth. With the establishment of Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Abu al-Mu'tasim joined the ranks of Hamas and became active within its ranks. He was arrested at the beginning of the First Intifada in 1987 CE, when he was subjected to harsh interrogations to extract information from him, but he was known as the Falcon of Hamas. He spent some time in occupation prisons and was a representative of the prisoners there, as in addition to strengthening his position against the Zionist enemy, he was proficient in the Hebrew language. In the arrest campaigns launched by the security authorities, the mujahid Sheikh was arrested by the authorities more than three times until he was stationed in Junaid Central Prison and spent more than 26 months there, accompanying the great martyrs and leaders of Hamas.

Hamas Falcon and the Al-Aqsa Intifada

With the start of the blessed Al-Aqsa Mosque Intifada, he was released from the controlled prisons and came out with great enthusiasm to actively participate in the uprising, of which he was one of the leaders of popular actions. He met with the people who waited for hours to hear his fiery words. Due to his obvious influence and excellent activity, the attempt to arrest him continued in such a way that the Zionist regime forces attempted to arrest him several times, as the Zionist occupying forces raided his home on 9 March 2002 but did not find him. His family was threatened that if he did not surrender, he would be assassinated. On 23 December 2002 CE, large forces of the Zionist occupying army attacked the city of Qalqilya with military tanks and Apache helicopters and surrounded a house in Suffin, and hours later the occupying forces managed to arrest him with the accompaniment of the leader from the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in Qalqilya, prisoner Nasser Nazal. The Sheikh was intensely interrogated at Petah Tikva and Ashkelon detention facilities and was charged with several accusations, including leading the Hamas movement in Qalqilya and planning operations carried out by the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, but he denied all charges.

Life Imprisonment

He is currently held in Shata Central Prison and his trial was postponed this month; as the military prosecution of the Zionist regime had requested life imprisonment against the mujahid Sheikh. He was distinguished by firm positions, fluent language, closeness to God Almighty, the people's love for him, and the prominent legal style by which his companions in the Hamas movement refer to him as the Rebellious Falcon of Hamas.
