He was martyred at dawn on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 AD, in the assassination operation by fighter jets of the Zionist regime on the Gaza Strip, simultaneously with Khalil Salah Bahatini, one of the members of the Military Council and Commander of the Northern Region of the Al-Quds Brigades and Tariq Muhammad Ezzedine, one of the military operation commanders of the Al-Quds Brigades in the West Bank.


Biography

Jihad Shaker Diab Ghannam was born in a Palestinian refugee family in the Yibna Palestinian refugee camp in the Gaza Strip in 1961 AD. His original birthplace is the village of Sawafir Western Gaza Strip, from which his family migrated.


Militant Activities

He entered the national resistance early in his life and participated in resistance against the occupation inside the Gaza Strip, then in the late 1980s AD, he joined the Islamic Jihad Movement and participated in training its members in Sudan and Beirut and the battles of Beirut in 1982 AD, and met with Fathi Shqaqi, Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad Movement. He also participated in the establishment of the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement in 2000 AD, and supervised the training of its members, firing mortar shells, repelling attacks, targeting vehicles of the Zionist regime, executing a number of martyrdom operations targeting occupier forces and settlers, recruiting military cells in the West Bank, and assumed responsibility for leading the Southern Region in the Al-Quds Brigades and then the responsibility of the Council Secretariat.


Assassinations and Attempts

The occupiers pursued and arrested him on charges of coordinating, transferring money and weapons between the Islamic Jihad Movement and Hamas Movement and exiled him outside Palestine. Since the outbreak of the Second Intifada in 2000 AD, he was pursued again and subjected to assassination attempts multiple times, including in an assassination attempt and plot in 2001 AD, he suffered serious injury which led to the amputation of his leg and part of his hand. His house was bombed several times by the occupiers during various wars and operations in the Gaza Strip. Including after the Battle of Al-Asf Al-Makul in 2014 AD, against the occupiers, the Zionists bombed his house which led to the death of his mother, sister and brother and a number of his cousins.


Death

Jihad Ghannam was martyred at dawn on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 AD, in the assassination operation by fighter jets of the Zionist regime on the Gaza Strip titled Al-Sahm Al-Waqi, simultaneously with Khalil Salah Bahatini, one of the members of the Military Council and Commander of the Northern Region of the Al-Quds Brigades and Tariq Ibrahim Ezzedine, one of the military operation commanders of the Al-Quds Brigades in the West Bank.


Reaction of Islamic Jihad Movement and Hamas Movement

Palestinian Islamic Jihad Movement stated in a statement, referring to the criminal action of the Zionist regime in targeting a number of commanders of this movement in Gaza, that the full responsibility for the terrorist and cowardly crime in the Gaza Strip lies with the Zionist regime and stated: "The Palestinian response to this massacre will not be delayed and Saraya al-Quds and other resistance groups will not fall short in avenging the pure bloods and the enemy Zionist will not be able to achieve its goals through committing crimes; because the ranks of the resistance are united and integrated and its positions are fixed." Also, the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas in a statement while condemning the criminal attack of the enemy Zionist on Gaza and the martyrdom of a number of Palestinians including the martyrdom of Jihad Shaker Al-Ghannam, Tariq Ibrahim Ezzedine, Khalil Salah Bahatini, from the commanders of the resistance offered condolences: "Offering condolences for the martyrdom of the resistance commanders in Gaza and we emphasize that the Zionist enemy will pay the price for its crimes and these crimes will never weaken the determination and will of the Palestine nation to continue the path of resistance. We in the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas with pride and glory and faith in continuing the path of resistance offer condolences to the Palestine nation and the Islamic Ummah and Arab for the martyrdom of three senior commanders of Islamic Jihad namely martyr Jihad Shaker Ghannam, martyr Khalil Salah Bahatini and martyr Tariq Muhammad Ezzedine and a number of other Palestinian citizens most of whom were women and children. The full responsibility for this crime and its dangerous consequences lies with the enemy Zionist occupier. We emphasize again that the crimes of this regime against the residents of Gaza, West Bank, Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque will never bring security to it and cannot achieve its sinister goals and this regime will pay a very heavy price".
