Shirin Saeidi is an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Arkansas and an Iranian-American researcher who has conducted research on political and social analyses of Iran, particularly regarding the status of women, gender, and religious politics. She became the first woman to head the King Fahd Center for Middle East Studies at the University of Arkansas in Shahrivar 1401 SH (August 2022 CE), and remained in this position until December 2025 CE[1]. Education and Career
Shirin Saeidi received her PhD in Political Science from the University of Cambridge, England in 2012 CE[2]. Since then, she has been extensively active in various fields of Iranology and women's studies. Saeidi has been teaching as an Assistant Professor of Political Science at the University of Arkansas and has been active in the field of fieldwork research in Iran for years.
Works
Saeidi has published one of her prominent works titled "Women and the Islamic Republic", which was published by Cambridge University Press in 2022 CE. This book analyzes the status of women in the Islamic Republic of Iran after the Islamic Revolution.
Controversies and Dismissal
In December 2025, Shirin Saeidi was dismissed from her management position at the University of Arkansas Center for Middle Eastern Studies due to her political views regarding the Islamic Republic of Iran and support for Imam Khamenei and criticism of Israel, and her page on the X network was also blocked. This decision was made following the formation of a public campaign against her political positions. Shirin Saeidi defended the Islamic Republic of Iran on her social networks and specifically praised the leader of Iran, Imam Khamenei. She also called the America sanctions against the IRGC illegal and took strong positions against Israel. In this regard, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran criticized the freedom of speech law in the West and condemned this behavior by the US government.
