Political Activities
After the martyrdom of his son Hussein, he took over the leadership of the Ansar Allah movement. With the help of some Zaidi scholars, he founded the Haq Party. Al-Houthi was a prominent member of this party who, due to differences arising within the party, separated from it and founded the Shabab al-Mu'min Party. After the infiltration of the America into Yemen to counter Al-Qaeda forces and foreign interference in Yemen's internal affairs, Badr al-Din al-Houthi invited his students to struggle against the government. Following this action, the Yemeni government targeted his home, and he was forced to leave his country. It is said that Badr al-Din was the target of several unsuccessful assassination attempts. In the targeting of him in the village of al-Kharib, several members of his family were killed. Also, the unsuccessful assassination operation against him in 2005 CE led to the start of the second Houthi war with the Yemeni government, and with the assumption of Badr al-Din's death, the war stopped.
Thoughts and Beliefs
Support for Palestine
He was concerned with the issue of Palestine and confrontation with the Israel. He considered support for the oppressed necessary. He supported the stance and actions of his son Hussein in confronting the America by chanting the Sarha slogan and boycotting American and Israeli goods.
Islamic Unity
Badreddin considered Islamic Unity necessary to confront the great dangers that Muslims face. He also called for adopting an appropriate stance in facing the conspiracies of America and Israel and confronting them. His thoughts and beliefs have been considered close to Twelver Shia. He considered those enemies of Imam Ali (AS) who were aware of his legitimacy but rose to fight against him as unbelievers.
Islamic Revolution of Iran
He was among the supporters of the Islamic Revolution of Iran. It is said that he celebrated the military success of the Iran in the Iran–Iraq War and civil wars by firing guns. Also, the intellectual uprising of the Ansar Allah movement, of which he is considered the spiritual father, is considered inspired by the Islamic Revolution of Iran. His policies and those of his sons have also been considered aligned with Iran's policies. Badreddin traveled to the Iran in 1994 CE, along with his son Hussein. Some have stated his return to Yemen was in 2002 CE, and others have mentioned his stay in Iran lasted one year. Some have claimed that he and his son were influenced by Twelver Shia Islam in Iran. For this reason, Ansar Allah has been considered a Twelver Shia movement; however, the Houthis have rejected this claim and emphasize their Zaidi identity.
Death
Finally, Badreddin al-Houthi died in 2010 CE, at the age of 89, as a result of complications of a respiratory disease[1].
