Salah Zawawi (born 1937 CE – died 20 February 2023) was born in Palestine and served as the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Iran. He was the second Palestinian ambassador to Iran after Hani al-Hasan and held this position from 1361 SH (1982 CE) to 1400 SH (2022 CE). He is considered a founding member of the Fatah and former ambassador of Palestine to Algeria, Brazil, and Kenya. Due to his long tenure as ambassador in Iran, he was given the title "Moqaddam al-Sufara" (Ambassador of Ambassadors).
Biography
Salah Zawawi was born in 1937 CE, in the city of Safed, Galilee region, in Palestine. After the death of his wife Dalal al-Araj, he buried her in Behesht-e Zahra, Tehran.
End of Mission
On Thursday, 16 Dey 1400 SH (6 January 2022), at the end of his mission in Iran, he met with Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
His Daughter, the New Ambassador
Salam Zawawi is the daughter of Salah Zawawi. Salam Zawawi, the new Ambassador of Palestine to Iran, was sworn in on 18 Dey 1400 SH (8 January 2022) before Mahmoud Abbas, the President of the Palestinian National Authority, and began her activities as the new Ambassador of Palestine to Iran. This ceremony was held at the residence of Mahmoud Abbas in Amman, the capital of Jordan.
After 1948, the family of Salam moved to Syria and resided in the city of Aleppo. Afterwards, the father of Salam took on the position of Ambassador of the Liberation Organization of Palestine to Algeria, Brazil, and then Kenya, becoming the most experienced Palestinian diplomat in his position. Salam has lived in Tehran for about 18 years and possesses knowledge of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Support for the Islamic Revolution
From the years before the victory of the Islamic Revolution, among all Palestinian circles, parties, and groups, he was famous and renowned for his complete support of the Islamic Revolution and Imam Khomeini (peace be upon him), to the extent that the Liberation Organization of Palestine in 1361 SH (1982 CE), to maximize the capacity of the Palestinian Embassy in Tehran and develop relations with the officials of the Islamic Republic of Iran and the great and noble people of Iran, sent him as Ambassador to Tehran, a selection that lasted more than four decades, to the extent that the great people of Islamic Iran in all provincial centers and counties hosted him repeatedly and honored him as the true representative of the cause of Palestine and resistance.
Love for the Leader of Iran
He loved the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Imam Khamenei (may his shadow remain elevated) and in the position of '"Moqaddam al-Sufara", whenever the ambassadors of Islamic countries or ambassadors of other countries attended the presence of the Supreme Leader of the Revolution on occasions such as the day of Mab'ath, by attending the Imam Khomeini Husseinie, he would listen with all his heart to the statements of the Imam of the justice-seekers, free men, and resistors of the world. He, who out of love to understand more of the Islamic Revolution, had learned the Persian language, always after the Leader's statements in every gathering and political assembly, would explain and elaborate on his views in various fields.

The Secretary-General of the Approximation Assembly, Hamid Shariari, on the sidelines of the international conference "Holy Jerusalem, Axis of Unity of the Islamic Ummah", by presenting a plaque, appreciated the efforts of Salah al-Zawawi, the former Ambassador of Palestine to Iran.

Blessings upon you, who by supporting the oppressed, chose the comfort of the hereafter, and undoubtedly those who dedicate their lives to the oppressed are the wealthy of the other world. May your effort be thanked, your determination accepted, and success accompany you.

Tribute to "Moqaddam al-Sufara"
The tribute ceremony for Zawawi in the form of a special program titled "Moqaddam al-Sufara", Monday 9 Esfand 1400 SH (28 February 2022), in a ceremony held by the Media Culture Center and the Office of the Society for Defense of the Palestinian Nation in the office of this society, with the presence of Palestinian, Iraqi, and Iranian personalities, the 40 years of diplomatic and media activities of Salah Zawawi, the former Ambassador of Palestine to the Iran, were appreciated.
Death
He was hospitalized in a hospital in Tehran on 20 February 2023 CE, equivalent to 1 Esfand 1401 SH, due to illness and finally passed away at the age of 85 and was buried in Behesht-e Zahra[2].
