Biography

Hajj Lotfi Muhammad Mahmoud al-Hams was born in 1929 CE in the city of Yibna and married one year before the occupation of Palestine in 1948 CE, having seven sons and five daughters. Three of his sons passed away during his lifetime; his first son "Zuhair" died during migration in the city of Majdal, and after years, "Radwan" passed away due to illness. His second child, named "Zuhair", was martyred during the First Intifada after a clash with the occupying army in the Yibna camp.

Before migration in Yibna, he learned the book "Teaching Quran" from Sheikh Muhammad Rizq, then Sheikh Abdulkarim Abu Hashem, and Sheikh Muhammad Tafash, and during this time learned to read and write the Quran. Due to his knowledge of reading and writing, he directly entered the second grade and completed primary education with high distinction. After migration, he entered the Electricity and Industry Department and graduated in 1337 SH (1958 CE), honoured for achieving first rank in industry. The Gaza Strip did not have an electricity major at that time; he pursued the profession of watch repair to learn it, mastered it within 15 days, opened a shop for repairs, and subsequently worked in it.

Battle against Zionists

He participated in the battle against Zionist aggressions and the siege of the city of Bashit before the occupation of Palestine.

First Generation of the Brotherhood

He began his cooperation with the Muslim Brotherhood in 1950 CE, to the extent that he was influenced by the speech of one of the Brotherhood sheikhs, which caused him to respect them. His cousin Sheikh Salama also joined them. Hajj Lotfi continued in the Brotherhood and studied under his sheikhs, including Sheikh Ismail Muhammad Hussein Misri, Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali, Sheikh Abbasiri, and Sheikh Ali Jaafar, accompanied by his brothers from the sheikhs of Rafah. Some of them have passed away and some are visible, such as Sheikh Muhammad Barhoum, Ahmad Hamd, Musa Barhoum, Abdullah Lafi, Mahmoud Mohsen, Muhammad al-Najjar, Fawzi al-Attar, and others.

They continued to go to the Brotherhood branch in Sinai until during the era of Gamal Abdel Nasser a mad attack was carried out on the Muslim Brotherhood and they were subjected to harassment and persecution, which led to them stopping going to the Brotherhood.

These obstacles did not prevent him; therefore, he joined the Palestinian battalion formed by Abdulmonem Abdulraouf - one of the Muslim Brotherhood - which initially included 250 youths from the Gaza Strip.

After Abdulmonem, the battalion commander, was imprisoned by Gamal Abdel Nasser, Hajj Lotfi was expelled from the Muslim Brotherhood after 21 months of joining due to membership in the Muslim Brotherhood. He is one of the senior refugees who experienced moments of tragedy and forced displacement due to the crimes of the Zionists.

Death

He passed away on Thursday 25/8/2010 CE, corresponding to 15 Ramadan 1431 AH. Saleh al-Hams, one of his close relatives, explained to Al-Resala network that Hajj Lotfi al-Hams died due to an incurable disease he had contracted.
