Husayn Ali al-Daraj was born on 14 January 1954 CE, in the village of Mit Mu'alla, subordinate to the markaz of Bilbais in Sharqia Governorate, Egypt, into a religious family. His father, like most Egyptians of that time, was fond of Sufism. He became acquainted with the call of the Muslim Brotherhood during his student days.


Education

Despite financial hardship, he stood out among his peers at various educational levels and worked during summer vacations to make a living, even going to Libya for work. He held jobs such as carpentry, blacksmithing, and various other occupations until he obtained a medical license from Al-Azhar in 1979 CE, and in 1986 CE, he received a master's degree in cardiovascular surgery, and then in 1986 CE, he obtained a license in Principles of Religion. He was a member of the Physicians Syndicate Council and a member of the Cardiovascular Surgery Association of Egypt.


Activities

He became acquainted with the Muslim Brotherhood movement during his student days and from that time on, he strove day and night, and he held the presidency of the Student Union at Al-Azhar University. He was one of the founders of Islamic work in the city of Shubra al-Khayma and one of the leaders of the Northern Cairo Governorate and is one of the activists of the Brotherhood movement. Many members of the Muslim Brotherhood were trained by him. He was constantly in contact with his brothers and neighbors, even with those who differed with him in view and thought. He delivered Friday prayer sermons at Al-Fath Mosque in Shubra al-Khayma, and he is one of the founders of this mosque. He traveled to some European countries as a preacher, trainer, and teacher, such as Sweden and United Kingdom.

People's Assembly Elections

He became a candidate for the People's Assembly elections from the Shubra al-Khayma region.


Military Court

He was sentenced to three years in prison in one of the military cases against the Muslim Brotherhood. Then he was released on 16 February 2004 CE, which is the sixth military case during the presidency of Muhammad Hosni Mubarak. 22 figures and leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested following demonstrations for Palestine at Al-Azhar Mosque. One week after the arrest, a republican decree was issued on 13 November to refer them to the military court.


Death

He died at dawn on Friday, 25/6/2004 CE, after enduring illness for a long time that had affected his heart, liver, and neck, at the age of nearly fifty. He was buried in the family tomb in his birthplace, the village of Mit Mu'alla, Bilbais markaz, Sharqia Governorate. At the funeral ceremony, a large group of Muslim Brotherhood members attended, led by the Second Deputy Engineer Khairat al-Shater, Hajj Saad Lashin, Hamdi Ibrahim, and a large number of members of Al-Hashd al-Sha'bi.
