Abdullatif Abu Qurah was born in 1324 Lunar Hijri (AH), corresponding to 1906 CE, in the city of Salt. He cooperated seriously with the Muslim Brotherhood to the extent that he established the Muslim Brotherhood movement in Jordan, and he passed away on 21 Ramadan / 1386 Lunar Hijri (AH) in the city of Amman.


Lineage

The Abu Qurah family, whose ancestor traces back to Abdulsalam bin Mushish, and their lineage reaches Hasan al-Muthanna. He is the son of Imam Hasan (peace be upon him), grandson of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) and Fatimah (peace be upon her), daughter of Messenger of God (peace be upon him and his progeny). The beginning of the Abu Qurah family's residence in the city of Salt dates back to the first half of the thirteenth century Lunar Hijri (AH), corresponding to the nineteenth century CE.


Education

Abdullatif Abu Qurah received his religious sciences and graduated from the Al-Katab schools (in his time) under Sheikh Abd al-Halim Zaid Kilani, the Imam and Khatib of the Grand Mosque of Salt and a Sharia judge. He then continued his studies through numerous scientific councils inside and outside the country, especially in Cairo and Damascus.


Relations with Leaders of Islamic Movements

He also benefited greatly from his relationships with leaders and thinkers of Islamic movements in the East and West, such as Hassan al-Banna, Dr. Mustafa al-Siba'i, Abul A'la Maududi, Abul Hasan al-Banna, al-Bashir al-Ibrahimi, and other leaders and scholars of Muslims. He also relied on himself through deep study and creating a solid scientific base and extensive Islamic culture by studying and searching books and sources of religious and worldly sciences in various branches of knowledge that his vast library encompassed, and he tried to learn much and advised his sons after him to acquire knowledge.


Activities

Abdullatif Abu Qurah moved from Salt to Amman at the beginning of his youth and engaged in trade, construction, and entrepreneurship, and was one of the first people to establish a car trading company in Jordan, where he was a seller of Chevrolet, Rover, and Essex in the early thirties of the twentieth century CE. But afterwards, he devoted most of his time and effort to national work and Islamic activity. He participated in the 1936 CE revolution in various fields, activity in collecting weapons, enthusiasm, spiritual vitality and carrying weapons, and from the beginning of entry in the groups of mujahideen in war with the British and Zionists.


Founding of the Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan

Afterwards, Abdullatif devoted himself completely to Islamic works and communicated with Hassan al-Banna (whose mother was from the Abu Qurah family), the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. He visited Egypt and had continuous contact with Hassan al-Banna; since he was a member of the founding body of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Then he sought to establish this group in Jordan and requested delegations to participate in Amman and meet with King Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein. In Jordan, with the help of his brothers, he established the Muslim Brotherhood movement in the mid-1940s CE. The first headquarters of this group was opened in the Abu Qurah building - Zuhur Jabal Amman, under the patronage and presence of King Abdullah I. After the establishment of this group, Abdullatif was elected as the General Supervisor of the group in Jordan. The call was for people to resume Islamic life by creating a Muslim society based on a popular base under the rule of comprehensive social, economic, and political systems of Islam. The Brotherhood participated in public and political life, hence Abdullatif and his brothers financially contributed to buying, establishing, and building homes, schools, mosques, centers, and Islamic charitable associations to serve the people, homeland, and nation in all humanitarian matters.


Jihad in Palestine

Muslim Brotherhood participated in the war with Jews in 1948 CE under the leadership of Abdullatif Abu Qurah from the Abu Ubaidah company, which was the representative of this group in Jihad fi Sabil Allah Almighty. They participated in the defense of Jerusalem, Sur Baher, Ain Karim, Malha, and Ramat Rachel. Abdullatif resigned from this group in 1953, and before and after that, he had participated in the establishment and activity of a group of groups, including:

  • Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and leadership of Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan.
  • Representative of Muslim Brotherhood in Jordan in the battles of Palestine in 1948 CE. Its headquarters was in the village of Ain Karim - Jerusalem.

Death

Abdullatif Abu Qurah passed away in the last ten days of the holy month of Ramadan 1384 Solar Hijri (SH), equal to 1/2/1967 CE, at the age of sixty.
