Abdul Ghaffar Aziz was the Deputy Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. He was fully fluent in the Persian language and played an effective role in coordinating the presence of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders at the Unity Conferences of the Islamic World Assembly for Approximation of Islamic Sects.
Biography
Abdul Ghaffar Aziz was born in 1962. He came from a wealthy, religious family with high educational standards, and after graduating, he joined Jamaat-e-Islami and after some time was appointed as Deputy Foreign Minister and then Foreign Affairs Director[1].
He received his higher education in Sharia and Arabic language and literature from Libya.
He had a deep study and perspective on the developments of the Islamic world and published numerous articles regarding the developments of the world of Islam and Islamic movements in the world in the monthly magazine Tarjuman al-Islam.
He had complete mastery of Arabic and Persian languages and published a news bulletin regarding Jamaat-e-Islami news in Persian under his supervision and was responsible for the Dar al-Urubah institute located in Mansoorah, Lahore. He also translated several books of Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi into Persian, the translation of the complete period of Tafsir al-Quran named Tafhim al-Quran into Persian was well-received.
Support for Islamic Movements
He was a prolific writer and speaker. He had close relationships with leaders and representatives of Islamic movements worldwide. Whenever Muslims were persecuted in any country, he would write about the subject. Abdul Ghaffar Aziz wrote very effective articles in the monthly magazine Tarjuman al-Quran Lahore regarding the situation of Muslims and Islamic movements in Syria, Egypt, Libya, Sudan, Palestine, Afghanistan, and Kashmir and employed all his efforts to awaken the human conscience regarding injustice against Muslims[2]. He was a fearless spokesman for the independence movements of Palestine and Kashmir.
Connection with the Islamic World Assembly for Approximation of Islamic Sects
Abdul Ghaffar Aziz coordinated the necessary arrangements for the presence of Jamaat-e-Islami leaders, including the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami, at the Unity Conferences held by the Approximation Assembly in Tehran and he himself attended the Unity Conferences in Tehran several times.
He played an active role in inviting former Secretaries-General of the Islamic World Assembly for Approximation of Islamic Sects, Mohammad Ali Taskhiri and Mohsen Araki, to travel to Pakistan.[3].
Death
He passed away in Lahore in 2020 AD, at the age of 58, after fighting cancer for one year[4].
