Notes

Viewpoint

Abbas Nilforoushan was a prominent and well-known commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps who played a significant role in strengthening the Resistance Front in the region. As one of the military strategists of the Islamic Republic of Iran, he was always at the forefront of supporting the resistance movement against the aggressions of the Zionist regime and other regional enemies.

Nilforoushan, due to his extensive experience in battlefields and continuous efforts to support the Axis of Resistance, including Hezbollah Lebanon and Palestinian resistance groups, is recognized as one of the key figures in supporting the ideals of the resistance. His active presence in military and diplomatic planning for the Resistance Front helped increase its capability against continuous threats from the Zionist regime and other invading forces.

He also, as a strategic commander, played a significant role in coordinating resistance forces across the region. Adhering to the principles of the Islamic Revolution and defending the rights of the oppressed nations of the region, including the people of Palestine and Lebanon, he always emphasized the importance of fighting against oppression and global arrogance, thereby gaining high popularity and respect among resistance forces.

General Nilforoushan, alongside other commanders of the IRGC, continues to be recognized as one of the key pillars of Islamic resistance in the region, and his efforts have had a significant impact on preserving and strengthening the power of resistance against the Zionist regime and invading forces[1].

Israel's Strategy Towards Iran

General Nilforoushan, as the Deputy of Operations of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, played an important role in stating the positions of the Islamic Republic of Iran against the Israel. In an analysis regarding the strategy of the Israel towards Iran, he said: "Israel has strategically come to believe that the possibility of a conflict between the America and the Iran does not exist, and has realized that it does not have the ability to confront the Islamic Republic, and America also does not have the former capacity to maintain the Zionist regime. The new strategy of the regime is the war-between-wars strategy or war in the gray zone. The main goal of the strategy is to weaken the components of the power of the Islamic Revolution, such as nuclear power components, missile and drone power, and the regional power of the Iran. The general principles governing this strategy are information warfare and controlling the level of war below our threshold of tolerance. Our main duty in this strategy is counter-intelligence; we must make counter-intelligence the basis of our work to confront this strategy."

2022 Protests

He also, following the 2022 protests, said in a speech addressed to Biden: "Mr. Biden, listen, this is not a country that can be overthrown by media operations. To collapse the Iran, one must pass through a sea of blood, which you do not have the ability to cross." A few days later, in another speech, he emphasized: "Be sure that you will not reach 81 years old; you will collapse from within, and the signs of this collapse are evident in the formation of your puppet government that you are patching together. I want to quote one of your vile commanders whose ugly name I hesitate to utter, the slaughtering commander who has the blood of thousands of Palestinians on his neck. He said in the early days of the Revolution that the earthquake that occurred in Tehran with the occurrence of the Islamic Revolution, its aftershocks would crush Tel Aviv."[2].

Death

Finally, Abbas Nilforoushan, after years of effort and struggle in the Imposed War, commanding various levels of the IRGC and advisory activities, was martyred on Friday evening, 27 September 2024 CE (6 Mehr 1403 SH), in a missile attack by the Zionist regime on the southern suburbs of Beirut alongside Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, and other commanders of the Axis of Resistance.
