Izz al-Din al-Baik was a member of the Central Council of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Commander of the Martyr Emad Aqel Battalion, and Commander of the Northern Brigade of the Qassam Brigades. He was a designer of military operations and the Military Intelligence Commander of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. He was referred to by the Hamas Movement as the "Commander, Destroyer of the Generals' Plan" due to thwarting the 2024 CE plan of the Israeli Army generals to occupy the north of the Gaza Strip and displace its residents. He, along with his deputy, Commander of the Zaytoun Battalion Emad Aslim, reached martyrdom in a heavy airstrike by Israeli warplanes on Wednesday evening, 27 May 2026 CE, corresponding to 10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, in a house in the center of Gaza City.
Biography
Izz al-Din al-Baik was born in 1981 CE in the Jabalia refugee camp in the north of the Gaza Strip.
Presence in Hamas
He joined the Hamas Movement at a young age and was raised in the Al-Awda Mosque in the Jabalia refugee camp. Subsequently, in 2000 CE, along with commanders Suhail Ziad and Abu Anas al-Ghandour, the former Commander of the Northern Brigade in the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, he joined the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. For ten consecutive years, he commanded the Martyr Emad Aqel Battalion, affiliated with the Qassam Brigades, in the west of the Jabalia refugee camp. Following the martyrdom of Ahmad al-Ghandour, Commander of the Northern Brigade of the Qassam Brigades, on 26 November 2023, he assumed command of this brigade in the early second month of the war and oversaw military operations in the areas of Beit Hanoun, Beit Lahia, Jabalia Camp, and Jabalia City.
Designer of Military Operations
Due to his field capabilities, Izz al-Din al-Baik quickly rose to a prominent position in the military branch and oversaw the execution of special missions and commando operations announced by these brigades. He played a pivotal role in leading the military operations of the Qassam Brigades during the Israeli invasion of northern Gaza in 2004 CE, which was called the Days of Repentance by Israel. Palestinian groups responded to this invasion with the 17-day operation Days of Anger, which included dozens of clashes, ambushes, and missile launches, and ultimately ended with the withdrawal of Israeli forces without achieving their stated objectives. He also played a prominent role during the Israeli invasion of the Gaza Strip in 2008 CE, known by Palestinian groups as Operation Cast Lead and the Battle of Al-Furqan. He also participated in the command during the 2012 CE war, which Israel called Operation Pillar of Defense and the Resistance called Operation Steles of Sajil.
Military Intelligence Commander of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood
He served as part of his leadership duties (Head of Military Intelligence in the Northern Brigade). He was responsible for collecting information regarding Israeli Army targets and played a prominent role in preparing intelligence and operational maps for the 7 October 2023 CE attack in Operation Al-Aqsa Flood.
Destroyer of the Israeli Generals' Plan
He undertook the leadership of a defensive plan which, through a series of operations announced by the Qassam Brigades, helped inflict heavy damages on the Israeli occupying forces and prevented the Israeli Army from achieving its objectives. These operations thwarted the 2024 CE plan of the Israeli Army generals to occupy the north of the Gaza Strip and displace its residents. Hence, Hamas described him as "Destroyer of the Generals' Plan". Israel accuses him of involvement in targeting a military jeep with a Kornet missile east of Gaza during the Sword of Jerusalem events, which occurred after the Qassam Brigades revealed the infiltration of a special forces unit from Sayeret Matkal to the east of Khan Yunis. This operation led to the martyrdom of Nur Baraka, one of the commanders of the Qassam Brigades in this city.
Martyrdom
Finally, Izz al-Din al-Baik, along with his deputy, Commander of the Zaytoun Battalion Emad Aslim, reached martyrdom in a heavy airstrike by Israeli warplanes on Wednesday evening, 27 May 2026 CE, corresponding to 10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1447 AH, in a house in the center of Gaza City[1].
