Abdulrahman Ismail Abdulrahman Ghunaimat was born in Surif, a suburb of Palestine. He was the leader of the Surif Battalion, a unit of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades. He completed his primary and middle education in city schools, then went to Hebron schools for high school in the scientific stream and successfully completed his studies. Immediately after finishing his studies, he was detained for 6 months in the Dhahariya detention center and could not join the university. After two years, he went to the Ahli Nursing College (affiliated with Ahli Hospital).
Biography
He was born in Surif, a suburb of Palestine. His father worked in the construction sector inside Israel, but after his son's arrest on charges of murder, he was prevented from entering Israel and working there, and he became employed in Arab areas. He is currently unemployed due to exceeding the legal limit. His mother is a housewife. He has one brother and eight sisters. His brother Ahmad, who was no older than 18, was arrested by Zionist occupying forces. Since he had not completed his secondary education, he completed his secondary education in Israeli prisons and also completed the memorization of the Quran. He was released in 2003 (CE) in a prisoner exchange with Israel, as there were five months remaining until his release. After less than a year, he was arrested again on the pretext of endangerment and an administrative order was issued. He remained in detention until 2006 (CE), after serving two and a half years in prison. Less than six months later, he was arrested for the third time in 2007 (CE) without any charges, and the only accusation is that he is the brother of Abdulrahman Ghunaimat.
Formation of the Surif Battalion
The "Surif" group, which was active in the southern region in the mid-90s, is considered one of the most prominent nuclei of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades in that region, and its quality operations created extensive discussion within the ranks of the intelligence services of the Israeli regime. It was a puzzle for the power and quality of operations from a military and security perspective, during which many shooting operations were carried out, and restrictions were placed on secondary roads, and many other operations, the most painful of which was the bombing of the city. The "Abravo" Cafe and a distinct kidnapping operation in which the battalion kidnapped Sharon Ard, a Zionist soldier.
Joining the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)
During his arrest in the occupying prisons, he joined the ranks of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), and in these six months, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades battalion was formed consisting of four members: (Abdulrahman Ghunaimat, Jamal Al-Sa'at, Raed Abu Hamdiyah, Ayman Qufisha). After release from the occupying prisons, he was in contact with the battalion members. Abdulrahman, in an interview with the website of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades regarding the goals of his group, said: "Revenge for our martyrs, restoring confidence in the institutions, boosting morale, and freeing prisoners, which is the most central and important goal of our jihadist work at this stage."
Battalion Operations Under His Leadership
The first battalion operation was in late 1995 (CE) near the Kfar Etzion settlement, where the battalion monitored and planned its movements well in this operation, especially since it was their first operation. The extremist settlers and the battalion retreated quickly, as he narrates, to the other side of the main Marin street in the Ba'lsun settlement, then to the village of Beit Amer, and then went to Surif. The result of this operation was the injury of a settler and his daughter, and their angry reaction due to the closing of the road passing near the settlement and due to the lack of security, which led to demonstrations.
The second operation was in 1996 (CE) after the killing of Engineer Yahya Ayyash, where the battalion decided that its target would be shooting at a military officer's vehicle, and their plan succeeded, and they shot at a military vehicle, which led to the killing of two Zionists named Major "Oztenon" and Sergeant "Yanib Saml".
Beit Shemesh Operation: On 1996 (CE), an attempt was made to kidnap a soldier or officer, and if the group failed, the group would look for a suitable target on the route to the Beit Shemesh settlement. He and his companion Jamal shot at the vehicle, and about an hour after the operation, the bodies of the occupants were discovered.
