Objective of the article

This essay examines the objectives of Imam Hussein’s uprising in light of its being a divine revolution, and its compatibility with the innate human nature in light of its being a human revolution, regardless of national and ethnic ties. The Husseini uprising is distinguished from other global secular revolutions –modern or historical- but this does not signify a complete difference between religious and secular revolutions.

Human innate nature and perfection

A human- whether he is religious or not- is driven by his innate nature to seek perfection in everything: he yearns for justice and freedom, and refuses oppression and enslavement. Not one human deviates from this general course.

Husseini uprising and perfection

The difference, however, between the Husseini uprising and secular revolutions lies in the method of seeking perfection, and this arises from the worldview maintained by each. The following aspects display the differences: Theocentrism vs. anthropocentrism, looking to the hereafter vs. the worldly life, and the group vs. the individual.
