Usama Nasr al-Din Muhammad Mustafa was born in 1956 CE in the ancient Bahri district of Alexandria Governorate. He was a member of the Guidance Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood, a professor of microbiology at the Research Institute of Alexandria University, former head of the Administrative Office of the Muslim Brotherhood, and deputy head of the Muslim Brotherhood's parliamentary bloc in Alexandria. His father worked as an engineer in the Alexandria Port Authority. He married Hanan Murad Abd al-Aziz, a professor at the High Institute of Public Health, and they had four children; the family resided in the Saba Pasha area of Alexandria Governorate. He was known for his good manners and cheerful demeanor.


Joining the Brotherhood

He became acquainted with the Muslim Brotherhood at a young age, and Ahmad Mahmoud Haydar and Abbas al-Sisi exerted significant influence on his affiliation with the group. In May 2005 CE, he was elected by the Governorate Council as head of the Administrative Office of the Muslim Brotherhood in Alexandria. Later that year, he assumed leadership of the Brotherhood's Higher Elections Committee for parliamentary elections in Alexandria, which resulted in the victory of eight representatives out of the group's eleven candidates in the region. From the establishment of the group until the end of his life, he headed its Administrative Development Section. In June 2008 CE, he was elected as a member of the Guidance Bureau of the Muslim Brotherhood.


Arrests

He was arrested several times in 1995 CE. Subsequently, on April 22, 2003 CE, he was detained in Case No. 814 of 2003 CE, in which all members of the Administrative Office of the Muslim Brotherhood in Alexandria were arrested, including Subhi Salih. In 2008 CE, and again on May 14, 2009 CE, he was arrested in a case involving twelve leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood. On February 18, 2010, two months after his release, he was arrested alongside eleven other members of the Muslim Brotherhood in Beheira Governorate. Security forces raided the home of Dr. Mahmoud al-Ghandour and arrested all those present, namely: Usama Nasr al-Din, Dr. Mahmoud al-Ghandour, Dr. Ibrahim al-Ghandour, Yasser al-Kharashi, Adel al-Khouli, Ahmad al-Asal, Mustafa al-Tahan, Adel al-Qutri, Ahmad al-Masiri, Hassan Asi, Yasser Khamis, and Nabil Badr.
