Siraj-ul-Haq is an Islamist politician from Pakistan and the Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan. He lives a very simple life; and is the only provincial representative who has no bank account due to opposition to bank interest.

Birth

Siraj-ul-Haq was born on September 5, 1962, in the village of Samarbagh in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Education

Siraj-ul-Haq completed his primary education at a local high school in Lower Dir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Peshawar. He also completed his master's degree in Education from University of the Punjab in 1990. During his university years, he studied the books of Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi and Maulana Naeem Siddiqui.

Political Activity

Siraj-ul-Haq has been elected to the Provincial Assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa several times and has served as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa three times. He joined Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan and from 1988 to 1991 was elected as Nazim-e-Aala of Jamaat Islam and has been elected as a Member of Parliament twice from constituency PK-95. He also requested the Taliban of Afghanistan to enter those areas peacefully instead of using force of arms to conquer cities.
Siraj-ul-Haq is a critic of the Federal Government of Pakistan on issues of inflation and unemployment.

Failed Assassination

According to Shia News, Maulana Siraj-ul-Haq, head of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan party, was present in Balochistan province of the country on May 19, 2023, to attend a meeting with his supporters and was subjected to a terrorist attack in the 'Zhob' region.
