Sayyid Mujtaba Khamenei is the third leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the martyrdom of the Leader and high-ranking Marja, Grand Ayatollah Imam Sayyid Ali Khamenei. Ayatollah Khamenei is an instructor of advanced levels at the Islamic Seminary and holds the chair of advanced courses in Fiqh and Usul. His solid innovations in the system of Hawza sciences, especially Fiqh, Usul, and Rijal, as well as possessing coherent intellectual foundations in codified Islamic sciences and commitment to these foundations in scientific productions, and the short interpretation of verses of the Holy Quran at the beginning of the Fiqh lesson, are among his prominent distinctions.

Biography

Sayyid Mujtaba Khamenei, the second son of the martyred Leader and Marja, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei, was born in 1969 CE in Holy Mashhad.

Education

He completed his high school education at Alavi School and began introductory courses of the Islamic Seminary at Ayatollah Mujtahidi Tehrani School. In 1989 CE, he went to Qom to complete his Hawza education and resided in this city until early 1992 CE. Then he returned to Tehran for five years and continued his Hawza education there. In 1997 CE, he married the martyred lady Zahra Haddad Adel and in the same year, for the second time, migrated to Qom to complete his education and benefit from scientific and spiritual graces.

Presence at the Front

Ayatollah Khamenei, during the Sacred Defense, was present in the jihad fronts among the fighters of the Habib Battalion of the Mohammad Rasul Allah Division (Peace Be Upon Him and His Progeny).

Teachers

Ayatollah Khamenei learned advanced level courses from the presence of Ayatollahs Ahmadi Miyanaji, Reza Ostadi, Osta, and a group of other prominent professors of the Qom Islamic Seminary. He studied advanced courses in Fiqh and Usul under his martyred father, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei, as well as Ayatollahs Uzma Sheikh Javad Tabrizi, Sheikh Hossein Vahid Khorasani, Sayyid Musa Shubayri Zanjani, Aqa Mujtaba Tehrani, and Sheikh Mohammad Moemen Qomi. He was continuously and actively present in advanced courses of Fiqh and Usul for over 17 years. Presenting scientific reports in Arabic and pursuing scientific discussions through objections, criticism, and out-of-class conversations with professors, caused special attention from some of the Hawza elders to him.

Scientific Genius

His innate genius and talent, along with effort, perseverance, precision, and scientific freedom, led to the production of solid innovations in the system of Hawza sciences, especially Fiqh, Usul, and Rijal. Possessing coherent intellectual foundations in codified Islamic sciences and commitment to these foundations in scientific productions are among his prominent distinctions. Initiative in fundamental discussions such as the truth and nature of Sharia ruling, levels of ruling, criteria of rulings, multiplicity of ruling, return of restrictions, method of transmission of hadith knowledge, and the course of evolution of Fiqh books, has led to the formation of a comprehensive scientific school. His mastery over the Fiqhi-Usuli schools of the greats of this science, from Sheikh al-Ansari to Imam Khomeini, has added to the richness of this school. Special attention to the works of the companions of the Imams (Peace Be Upon Them) and the opinions of the early Imamiyyah, especially the issue of "the accumulation of the Infallible Era (Peace Be Upon Them)" and its role in the inference process, is among the indicators of his scientific method.

Teaching in the Hawza

Ayatollah Khamenei, alongside his studies, was continuously engaged in teaching. He began teaching introductory Hawza courses at Ayatollah Mujtahidi School in Tehran and from 1995 CE, began teaching Ma'alim. Following the recommendation of Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Ali Khamenei regarding the necessity of transformation in the Hawza and the importance of the works of Martyr Sadr, he stopped teaching Ma'alim and turned to teaching the Halqat of Martyr Sadr. With migration to Qom in 1997 CE, he entrusted the continuation of teaching Halqat to one of his study partners. In 1998 CE, he began private teaching of Risail and Makasib in the Holy House of Imam Khomeini in Qom. Some time later, he held private advanced courses on Prayer, Tasbihat Arba'ah, Sujud, and Ruku, with the presence of a group of former students. In 2004 CE, he again began teaching Halqat and in the years 2005 CE, and 2006 CE, he taught advanced levels (Makasib) at one of the schools in Qom. In 2007 CE, his course was transferred to Feyziyeh School and in 2008 CE, the private advanced course on Prayer was formed at the office of Grand Ayatollah Khamenei in Qom. From the beginning of the academic year 2009 CE, the public advanced course in Fiqh and from 2010 CE, the advanced course in Usul officially began and continued until the beginning of the discussion on Istishab.

Teaching Method

Before teaching, he would write down the course of discussion and his scientific views, and after teaching, he would personally organize jurisprudential and principles of jurisprudence topics, some volumes of which are ready for publication. Although the lecture notes of his classes were prepared for publication by students, due to personal refusal, they have not been published publicly so far and have only been made available to certain elites and scholars of the seminary. Following the style of predecessor scholars, part of the class time was dedicated to intimate gatherings with students. Among his innovations was the short exegesis of verses of the Holy Quran at the beginning of the Fiqh class, which contained novel and deep interpretive points. Special attention to students' problems, even after the end of the class and in the form of long conversations, as well as planning for the scientific presentation of sub-branches by students, played an important role in nurturing critical power and practicing inference^[1].

Third Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran

In an extraordinary session of the Assembly of Experts, Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (May God protect him), was appointed and introduced as the third Leader of the Sacred Islamic Republic of Iran.

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful To the honorable and free people of Islamic Iran, greetings and blessings of God be upon you. The Assembly of Experts, while offering condolences on the martyrdom of the great leader His Eminence Ayatollah al-Uzma Imam Khamenei (May God sanctify his pure soul) and other valuable martyrs, especially the high-ranking commanders and daredevils of the armed forces and the students of Shajareh Tayyebah school in Minab county, and condemning the savage aggression of criminal American and vile Zionist regime, announces that this Assembly, immediately after the news of the martyrdom and celestial ascension of the wise and prudent Leader of the Islamic Revolution was published, despite acute war conditions and direct threats by enemies against this people's institution and the bombing of the offices of the Secretariat of the Assembly of Experts, which led to the martyrdom of several staff members and the security team of this complex, did not hesitate for a moment in the process of selecting and introducing the leadership of the Islamic system and according to the duties included in the Constitution and the internal regulations of the Assembly of Experts, placed the necessary measures and preparations for holding an extraordinary session and introducing the new leader on its agenda, and thus appropriate planning and necessary coordination for the gathering of the honorable representatives of this Assembly, who are present in the farthest points of the country, were carried out so that despite intelligent predictions in Article 111 of the Constitution for the formation of an interim council, the country would not face a leadership vacuum. The Assembly of Experts, honoring the high position of Velayat-e Faqih in the era of the occultation of Hazrat Wali-e-Asr (May God hasten his noble reappearance) and the importance of the leadership issue in the Islamic Republic system, honors 47 years of wise governance based on the principle of honor, independence, and authority of the Two Imams of the Revolution and while commemorating the memory of those divine and people-oriented leaders, declares that this Assembly, after precise and extensive investigations and using the capacity of Article 108 of the Constitution, in accordance with religious duty and belief in being present in the presence of God Almighty, in today's extraordinary session, appointed and introduced Ayatollah Seyyed Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei (May God protect him) as the third Leader of the Sacred Islamic Republic of Iran based on the decisive vote of the honorable representatives of the Assembly of Experts. Leader of Shia of Bahrain

Ayatollah Isa Qassim, leader of Shia of Bahrain, in a message congratulated the selection of Ayatollah Mujtaba Khamenei as the third Leader of Islamic Republic of Iran. Grand Mufti of Oman

Sheikh Ahmed al-Khalili on his personal page on the social network X, while condemning the American-Zionist attack on Islamic Republic of Iran, wrote: We are very happy about the quick selection of Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Khamenei as the Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran and we congratulate this selection. He added: We hope that he too will continue his father's path in helping the people of Palestine and confronting declining Zionism. Sheikh al-Khalili added: May God preserve His servants Muslims everywhere in His grace and favor^[4].

Hezbollah Lebanon

The resistance movement Hezbollah Lebanon in a statement regarding the selection of His Eminence Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei as the Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran, emphasized following the best successor to the martyr leader of the Ummah Imam Khamenei (may God be pleased with him) who was martyred after decades of struggle and wise leadership in preserving the path of the Islamic Revolution and dignity, independence, and power in facing Global Arrogance.
