Samir Muhammad Thabit Tawfiq was one of those who, despite years of arrest, trial, harassment, and torture, loved his religion and country. Samir Muhammad Thabit was born in 1936 AD in a religious environment in Al-Mahatah, Giza to Muslim parents in a middle-class family, the number of his children was twelve, he joined his older brother to memorize the Quran, then completed his studies at the Great Islam School in Giza.
Collaboration with the Brotherhood
His brother had a great influence on him in recognizing the Muslim Brotherhood movement, especially after its return in 1951 AD, where he joined the Muslim Brotherhood with his brother, and his connection with it increased during the university period, he was active at the Faculty of Agriculture, Cairo University in 1955 AD, to the extent that he quickly participated in collecting some money to distribute among the needy.
Trial and Conviction
In the same year (1955 AD), the so-called financing organization was put on trial there and he was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Afterwards, he completed his studies, but another calamity awaited him, more brutal than the previous one, until he was subjected to the severest torture and beatings inside the military prison and was sentenced to 9 years. He spent the entire period between the military prison, then Qena, and then Tora Farm, until he was released in Farvardin 1353 SH. Despite all hardships, he remained committed to his religion and was not affected by the torture during detention, such that God honored him in life and he remained steadfast in his call, until his older brother passed away in 1384 SH. With the arrest of his son Muhammad after the military coup that occurred in 2013 AD, the pain increased.
Death
He passed away on Tuesday, 31 Aban 1390 SH, corresponding to 17 Rabi' al-Thani 1443 AH, and his funeral ceremony was held in Mehr month at Hassari Mosque, and his body was buried in Fayoum Cemetery.
