Hasan Ismail al-Hudaybi was the second Supreme Guide of the Muslim Brotherhood, who was elected to this position after the assassination of Hasan al-Banna. Al-Hudaybi was born in December 1891 AD in the city of Arab al-Sawalihah into a poor family with working-class roots. He spent his elementary education studying Quranic teachings and entered law school in 1911 AD. He worked as a judge. Al-Hudaybi was aware of the formation of the Muslim Brotherhood since the late 1930s. The beginning of his friendship with Hasan al-Banna in 1945 led to his leadership in this movement[1].

Ideology

An important issue in the economic sphere that was placed on the Brotherhood's agenda during Hasan al-Hudaybi's leadership was relying on the economic factor to strengthen the infrastructure of their ideal Islamic Caliphate. He incorporated the theory of oil economy in service of the Islamic state into the Muslim Brotherhood's constitution. The belief of the Muslim Brotherhood organization at that time was that without a powerful economic infrastructure, a just and independent Islamic caliphate cannot be established in the world, and therefore, the non-aggressive occupation of one of the oil-rich countries of the Persian Gulf region was placed on the agenda[2].

After the signing of the 1954 agreement between Egypt and England by Gamal Abdel Nasser, Hasan al-Hudaybi called him a traitor and the Brotherhood attempted to assassinate Nasser, but this assassination attempt failed, and as a result, many leaders and members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested and executed.

Death

He died in November 1973 AD.
