Gholamreza Soleimani was one of the Basij fighters and commanders during the honorable era of the Sacred Defense, Commander of the Sahib al-Zaman Corps of Isfahan Province, Commander of the 19th Fajr Division, Commander of Qods Headquarters, Commander of the 41st Tharallah Division, and Commander of the 14th Imam Hussein Division. In July 2012 (CE), he was appointed as the Head of the Basij Organization by Supreme Leader, upon the recommendation of the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC.

Biography

Gholamreza Soleimani was born in 1964/1965 (CE) in Farsan County, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari Province.

Education

Brigadier General Soleimani held a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Isfahan, was a graduate of the IRGC Command and Staff Course, and held a PhD in the History of Iran during the Islamic period.

Military Service

He was one of the Basij fighters and commanders during the honorable era of the Sacred Defense. He began his voluntary presence in the spring of 1981 (CE) in the battlefields of truth against falsehood, starting from the front lines of the Susa defense sector as a Basij member. He participated as a fighter and company and battalion commander in the victorious and pride-creating operations of Tariq al-Quds, Fath al-Mubin, Beit al-Muqaddas, Ramadan, Muharram, Valfajr Preliminary, Valfajr 2 and 4, Khaybar, Badr, Valfajr 8, Karbala 4 and 5, and Valfajr 10.

He was among the first IRGC commanders who simultaneously held responsibility for the Resistance Region and the Combat Unit.

Initiatives

The most important programs of Brigadier General Soleimani in the Basij Organization include:

• Special attention to strengthening resistance bases and Basij strata centers as the fingertips of realizing the Basij mission, and striving to elevate the role of student, university, worker, guild, engineer, artist, other strata, and sisters;
• Active presence of ranks and centers under his responsibility and command in deprivation alleviation programs, strengthening jihadi groups, and expanding the field of service delivery in deprived areas and coping with unexpected events, close communication with scholars, people of science and opinion, professors and academics, and synergistic interaction with executive bodies and strengthening understanding and cooperation between armed forces;
• Strengthening the cultural aspect in realizing the missions of the Basij and IRGC, explaining cultural and social issues, and developing insight actions, and using the opportunities of cyberspace has always been his attention, and performing appropriate command during the Sacred Defense era in enhancing the defense and security capabilities of units under responsibility;
• Special attention to youth as the builders of the future of Islamic Iran, possessing the Basij spirit, being popular, and having broad-mindedness provided suitable opportunities for the continuation of his effective service in the Basij Organization and the realization of the wishes and measures of the Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (may God prolong his shadow).

Gholamreza Soleimani was martyred at dawn on 26 Esfand 1404 SH (16 March 2026 (CE)), in the US and Israel attack on Iran during the Ramadan War.

The spirit of sacrifice, humility, sincerity, and firmness in the field of action, and deep commitment to the ideals of Islam and the Revolution, is the precious heritage of Commander Soleimani that will remain forever in the historical memory of the nation of Iran, especially among the Guards of the Revolution, and the young generation of today and tomorrow of the martyr-nurturing region of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.
