Anwar al-Awlaki (English: Anwar al-Awlaki) (born April 22, 1971 – died September 30, 2011)[1] was an influential member of Al-Qaeda who held dual American and Yemeni citizenship.
Background and death
In April 2010, Barack Obama placed him on a list of individuals whom the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) was authorized to kill due to terrorist activities. The "targeted killing" of an American citizen had never occurred before. He was killed in an airstrike. Two weeks later, his sixteen-year-old son, Abdulrahman al-Awlaki, an American citizen born in Denver, was killed in a CIA drone strike in Yemen[2].
