Ahmed Fahmy was born on February 12, 1953, in the city of Zagazig in Lower Egypt. After completing his education, he became the Speaker of the Shura Council and a Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Zagazig University. In 1978, he joined the Muslim Brotherhood and served as a member of the Coordination Committee between political parties and professional syndicates in the Sharqia Governorate. He was subsequently appointed as the head of the Academic Bureau of the Brotherhood in that governorate.


Biography

Ahmed Fahmy, Speaker of the Shura Council and Professor of Pharmacology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Zagazig University, joined the Muslim Brotherhood in 1978 and became a member of the Coordination Committee between political parties. He was responsible for professional syndicates in the Sharqia Governorate and was later selected as the head of the Academic Bureau of the Brotherhood in that governorate. In 2010, the Muslim Brotherhood nominated him as their candidate for the Zagazig electoral district; he advanced to the second round but withdrew in compliance with the group's decision to boycott the rigged elections under the former regime.

Since 2004, he has participated in all reform demonstrations, as well as in the January Revolution protests that toppled the regime of Hosni Mubarak.

On Sunday, February 26, 2012, the Parliamentary Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party in the Shura Council, during a session, approved the nomination by the Executive Office of Professor Dr. Ahmed Fahmy, Deputy of the Sharqia Governorate, for the position of Speaker of the Shura Council. On February 2, 2012, at the party headquarters on Mansour Street, the committee ratified the selection of Ali Fath al-Bab, a member of parliament, as the committee's representative in the Shura Council.

Works

He has authored more than 60 scientific research papers published in various scientific journals. He has also supervised and examined over fifty master's and doctoral theses at the universities of Zagazig, Cairo, Alexandria, Helwan, Tanta, Ain Shams, and Minya, in Arabic, English, and German.
