Abdullah Salqini is the son of Sheikh Muhammad Salqini and was born in 1936 CE. He is among the opponents of the ruling regime in Syria. His brother, Dr. Ibrahim Salqini, was the Grand Mufti of the city of Aleppo. Some opponents of the Assad government called for his resignation in protest against the regime. Ibrahim Salqini was among the scholars who took strong positions against the regime during the period of uprisings and armed conflicts in Syria. Sheikh Abdullah Salqini took a stance after the death of his brother Ibrahim and the spread of rumors regarding his possible support for the government, clarifying that he was not supportive of the government.
Education
Sheikh Abdullah Salqini's education is as follows:
- Obtaining a Bachelor's degree in Sharia from the Faculty of Sharia at Damascus University in 1960 CE;
- Obtaining a Master's degree in Sharia with a specialization in "Tafsir and Quranic Sciences" in 1968 CE, from Cairo University;
- Obtaining a PhD in "Tafsir and Quranic Sciences" in Islamic Sciences in the field of "Islamic Sharia" from Cairo University in 1981 CE.
Academic Activities
Sheikh Abdullah Salqini's academic activities have been carried out in various centers:
- From 1960 CE to 1966 CE, he taught Islamic education in high schools in Deir ez-Zor and Aleppo.
- After that, until 1970 CE, for four years, he taught lessons such as: Tafsir, Principles of Tafsir, Hadith, and Hadith Sciences at the Mecca Institute.
- He again, from 1970 CE to 1980 CE, taught at Aleppo High School.
- After that, from 1980 CE to 1988 CE, he engaged in educational activities and teaching Quranic Tafsir, Quranic sciences, Hadith and its sciences in various departments at Imam Muhammad bin Saud Islamic University in Riyadh.
- From 1988 CE to 1997 CE, he taught Tafsir and Quranic Sciences in the Department of Principles of Religion at the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies in Al-Ahsa.
- Sheikh Abdullah afterwards transferred to the Faculty of Islamic and Arabic Studies in Dubai.
- Dr. Salqini finally, after resigning in 2004 CE, returned to his city and engaged in promotional activities and authorship.
- Salqini also during these years undertook guidance and consultation for various theses and participated in various seminars, and has the management of seminars and numerous educational courses in his record.
Executive Activities
Sheikh Abdullah Salqini, alongside academic activities, has also undertaken executive activities. His most important activities are:
- Victory in the elections of the Aleppo Governorate Administration in 1970 CE;
- Administrative representation of Aleppo Antiquities in 1979 CE;
- Head of Waqf in Aleppo Governorate in 1980 CE;
- Head of the Department of Principles of Religion at the Faculty of Sharia and Islamic Studies in Al-Ahsa (1989–1994 CE).
