Abdullah Jahangir is a religious preacher and trainer from Turkey and the president of the Union of Sunni Scholars. He has several years of experience serving as a Mufti in various districts of Istanbul and is currently a member of the Advisory Council of the Muslim Scholars League and the president of the Haraka Charity Foundation for Education, Training and Science (Al-Haraka lil-Ta'lim wa-l-Tarbiya wa-l-Ilm).
Biography
Abdullah Jahangir was born in the city of Kars in eastern Turkey and completed his primary and secondary education in local schools. After entering the "School of Imams and Preachers", he began studying religious sciences, then entered the Faculty of Islamic Sharia and completed his university studies at the same faculty. In 1998 CE, Jahangir was appointed as the Mufti of the Zeytinburnu district in Istanbul and held this position until 2004 CE. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2006 CE, he was the Mufti of the Çatalca district of Istanbul. He was raised under the supervision of teachers and masters who emphasized Islamic ethics, self-purification, and spiritual training alongside Sharia sciences. In his speeches, Jahangir has referred to the role of his teacher, Sheikh Akram Alam of the city of Kars, who was his main encourager in acquiring religious sciences. He provided the ground for his scientific and spiritual growth by building a dormitory and creating an educational space.
Scientific and Educational Activities
Abdullah Jahangir has been active in the field of Islamic sciences education and religious training for over 40 years. For the past five years, he has headed the Haraka Charity Foundation for Education, Training and Science. This centre specializes in teaching the Holy Quran, Sharia sciences, and moral training to students and seminarians under 18 years of age.
The centre's educational programme is five years long and includes:
- Teaching the Arabic language to use authentic Islamic sources;
- Studying and teaching texts of Fiqh, Tafsir, and Hadith;
- Memorizing and explaining 500 selected hadiths from the book Irshad al-Talibin min Kalam al-Mursalin;
- Moral and spiritual training based on the teachings of the Quran and Sunnah.
This centre is run completely free of charge, and tuition and accommodation costs are covered through donations from benefactors. Jahangir believes that the goal of this foundation is to train students who, alongside knowledge, possess piety and practical commitment to religious teachings.
Works
Abdullah Jahangir has authored works and manuscripts, some of which have not yet been published, including:
- Book Sirah Nabawiyyah (over 1000 pages);
- Book The Impact of Halal and Haram Wealth and Sustenance on the Lives of Muslims;
- Treatise Recommendations and Guidelines for New Muslims.
Viewpoints
He emphasizes the necessity of "Quranic education" as the basis of individual and societal happiness and believes that the true effect of the Quran is only realized when all its commands and teachings are fully implemented. He also emphasizes the importance of "patience and perseverance" in the face of religious pressures and restrictions, and referring to the history of early Islam, considers this issue a divine tradition in the confrontation between truth and falsehood.
Plans and Projects
Abdullah Jahangir is pursuing the plan to build the Dawud al-Qarsi Islamic Complex in his birthplace, Kars. This complex is intended to include a mosque, a Quran memorization centre, a faculty of Islamic sciences, and educational buildings and dormitories for students and professors. The land for this project, with an area of 7000 square meters, was donated by one of the benefactors. He also has the project of building two faculties of religious sciences – one for boys and the other for girls – in Istanbul under planning. One of his main goals is to train "at least one Quran memorizer who acts upon it in every Turkish family".
