Abd al-Karim Bakkar is a Syrian writer and scholar who has gained fame for his work in Islamic education, Islamic thought, missionary activities, and civilization-related issues, having authored approximately 30 books in these fields. Many of his writings have had resonance outside Syria, and recordings of his lectures have also been published.
Biography
Abd al-Karim ibn Muhammad al-Hasan Bakkar was born in 1951 AD in Homs Governorate, Syria. He obtained an Associate degree in Arabic language from the Faculty of Arabic Language at Al-Azhar University in 1973 AD, a Master's degree in the field of "Principles of Language" in 1975 AD, and a PhD in the field of "Principles of Language" from the same faculty in 1979 AD. The title of his doctoral thesis was "Al-Aswat wa al-Lahajat fi Qira'at al-Kisa'i" ("Sounds and Dialects in the Recitation of al-Kisa'i"), achieved with the rank of "First Honors".
Activities
Some of his most prominent activities include:
- Founding member of the "World Council for Islamic Propagation" (al-Hay'ah al-'Alamiyah lil-I'lam al-Islami), affiliated with the "Muslim World League" (Rabitat al-'Alam al-Islami), Riyadh branch;
- Advisory board member of the magazine "Islam Today" (al-Islam al-Yawm), Riyadh branch;
- Board member of the Sana Satellite Network in Oman;
- Head of the "Grammar, Morphology, and Philology" group at the Faculty of Arabic Language and Social Sciences in Abha (1989–1993 AD).
