Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa was a political and social activist in Kuwait who gained fame for his charitable and social activities. He played a significant role in establishing and supporting charitable and educational institutions inside and outside Kuwait and is considered the founder of the Muslim Brotherhood in Kuwait.
Biography
Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa was born in October 1910 CE in Kuwait. He studied at the Ahmadiya School. He was raised in a religious and cultural family and had connections with prominent figures in Kuwaiti scientific and religious circles, such as Sheikh Yusuf bin Isa al-Qina'i.
Political Activities
He was a member of the Education Council during the period of Abdullah al-Jaber al-Sabah and also a member of the Municipal Council from 1951 to 1954.
Founding of the Muslim Brotherhood Society
In 1947 CE, Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa established the Muslim Brotherhood group in Kuwait and, upon the recommendation of Hassan al-Banna, joined the council of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. He had close ties with the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood and established the Al-Irshad Islamic Society as its branch in the State of Kuwait. In August 1953 CE, the Al-Irshad Society published a magazine with the same name, Al-Irshad, which promoted the society's ideas and continued until the mid-1950s CE.
Charitable Activities
Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa engaged in numerous charitable and social activities throughout his life:
- Renovation of the Abd al-Aziz al-Qina'i Mosque in 1366 AH, in the Frij al-Jina'at area of Kuwait;
- Establishment of the Islamic Committee after the 1967 war to aid Palestinians and families of martyrs;
- Founder of the Mustafa Mahmoud Society in Egypt, which provided social and medical services to the needy;
- Participation in the reconstruction of the Qasr al-Eini Hospital in Cairo and receiving appreciation from the President of Egypt.
Educational Activities
Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa placed great importance on promoting science and education in society:
- Establishment of a vocational training center in Egypt to provide job opportunities for youth;
- Support for student education, especially in countries with Muslim minorities.
Aid to the Needy
During the earthquake in Egypt in 1992 CE, he donated a substantial amount to the victims and always strove to help the needy.
Death
Abd al-Aziz Ali al-Mutawa passed away on 7 April 1996.
