Biography

Abd al-Karim bin Muhammad Muti was born in 1935 CE, on the morning of Monday, 1st of Ramadan, in Zawiya Taghia near the city of Ben Ahmed. He grew up in a family where many members were active in the anti-colonial national movement against France. Muti completed his education in primary and secondary schools, then proceeded to teach Arabic language and worked as an inspector of the education system.


Activities

In the early 1970s CE, Abd al-Karim Muti established the first organized Islamic nucleus in Morocco. He is known as the founder of the Islamic Youth Movement, which sought religious revival and proper Islamic education. In 1975 CE, he was accused of incitement to assassinate Omar Benjelloun, a leftist activist, and fled to Saudi Arabia.

Exile

Over the years, he made numerous attempts to return to his homeland, but all these efforts failed. He was sentenced in absentia to life imprisonment and two death sentences, and continued his life in exile. He traveled to various countries including Saudi Arabia, Libya, and the United Kingdom, and continued his Islamic activities and writing his works.
