Abdullah bin Alwi al-Attas (1840–1929) was an Arab merchant in the East Indies. He had great enthusiasm for the revival of the nation and composed revolutionary poetry on several social issues. He was generous in charitable affairs, including paying twenty thousand Indian rupees to Haj Ahmad Dahlan to establish the Muhammadiyah Association to counter the Christianity that had spread in Jakarta. Among his sons is Ismail al-Attas, who was a member of the People's Council (Volksraad) on behalf of the Arabs.[1] [2]

He is the thirty-fifth grandson of the Messenger of God, Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny).
