Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani (born 3 June 1980 in Doha) is the current Emir of Qatar and also the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Qatar Investment Authority. Sheikh Tamim is the fourth son of Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani from his second wife, Sheikha Moza bint Nasser. Tamim has been the youngest reigning monarch among the Gulf Cooperation Council countries since 2018.

Education

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani completed his secondary education in 1997 at Sherborne School in Dorset and Harrow School in London, England. He subsequently graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst England. He is fluent in three languages: Arabic, English, and French.

Political Activity

After graduating from Sandhurst, Sheikh Tamim was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Qatar Armed Forces. In 2005, Sheikh Tamim was appointed as Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Qatar Armed Forces.

Crown Princehood

He was appointed as Crown Prince of Qatar on 5 August 2003. At this time, his older brother, Sheikh Jassim, waived his claim to this title. Since then, Sheikh Tamim has attended a number of international conferences as his country's representative.

Reign

On 25 June 2013, following the abdication of his father, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, he was appointed as the 8th Emir of Qatar.

Sports Activity

Sheikh Tamim considers sports as part of the most important priorities for Qatar to enhance the international image of his country. He founded the Qatar Sports Investments fund. In 2006, he chaired the committee for the 15th Asian Games in Doha. Under his leadership, all member countries participated in this event for the first time in their history. That year, the Egyptian Al-Ahram newspaper selected Tamim as the "Best Sports Personality in the Arab World".

The Egyptian Al-Watan newspaper, quoting the book "Qatar, Treasure of Secrets" written by Christian Chesnot and Georges Malbrunot, two French journalists, writes about Sheikh Tamim: Sheikh Tamim oversees and supervises all sports affairs in the country and currently heads the Qatar Olympic Committee. They believe that Sheikh Tamim's success in securing the hosting of the 2022 World Cup competitions greatly helped to consolidate and strengthen his power and authority within the ruling family of Qatar.

Under the supervision and guidance of Sheikh Tamim, Qatar won the hosting rights for the 2014 World Swimming Championships and the 2022 World Cup. He is also a member of the International Olympic Committee and President of the National Olympic Committee. Now, with his efforts, Qatar will host the Football World Cup in 2022.

According to The Economist, Sheikh Tamim's personality has been described by those close to him as friendly, confident, and candid. He is also referred to as an intelligent and calculative individual. He is known in politics as a pragmatic leader.

Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani has three wives and 12 children.

Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani married Jawaher bint Hamad bin Suhaim Al Thani in 2005 and has four children from her:
