Sayyid Qiyam al-Din Ghazi, known as "His Eminence Qiyam al-Din", was the leader and founder of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan.

Biography

Qiyam al-Din Ghazi was born in 1952 into a prominent family of "Eshans" residing in the Qazi Malik area of the Vakhsh valley, Tajikistan. His name first became widespread during gatherings and assemblies in the autumn of 1991 in the center of Dushanbe city. With his inciting speeches, Qiyam al-Din immediately became one of the first leaders of the 1992 gatherings. During the gatherings and meetings of 1992, alongside Qari Mohammadjan and Rahim Nurullah Bekov, the people of Tajikistan bestowed upon Qiyam al-Din the title of "People's General".

The establishment of the Islamic Renaissance Movement of Tajikistan in 1972 CE, holding the largest demonstrations in 1986 CE against the anti-religious Communist government, membership in the Assembly of Islamic Scholars of Afghanistan in the 90s CE, membership in the National Reconciliation Commission in 1997 are some of the political activities of Sayyid Qiyam al-Din Ghazi. His political, social, and religious activities caused him to be arrested and even tortured multiple times, the first of which dates back to 1979 CE. In 2006 CE, after Nuri's death and due to political pressure from the government, he apparently withdrew from political activities, but was engaged in training students, preaching and publishing Islam, and writing.

After the victory of the front supported by the Tajikistan government in the civil war, Qiyam al-Din and some of his followers migrated to Afghanistan. In the Union of Opposition Forces (against government forces), which consisted of a group of Islamists, nationalists, and Tajik liberals, Qiyam al-Din was responsible for collecting aid for refugees and thus traveled extensively to Iran and Arab and Muslim countries in the region to collect aid. After the peace agreement between the Union of Opposition and the government, Qiyam al-Din traveled to Iran in 2000 for the treatment of his young child who, according to him, suffered from leg paralysis.

Emomali Rahmon, President of Tajikistan, who had been attracted to Saudi oil dollars for some time and had placed some case-building against the Islamic Republic of Iran on his agenda, after arresting Qiyam al-Din claimed that he had accepted the Shia sect with pockets full of dollars from our friendly country, and acting upon the recommendation of the intelligence structure of this country, acted against the Tajik nation! This was while after the announcement of the ban on the activities of the Islamic Renaissance Party in Tajikistan, which was contrary to democratic approaches and freedom of speech and was done without any legal basis, Qiyam al-Din Ghazi had no political activity and was working in Russia.

Ghazi's Arrest and Political and Media Reactions

Martyr Sayyid Qiyam al-Din Ghazi was arrested in Azar 1396 SH at "Pulkovo" Airport, Saint Petersburg, Russia and transferred to Tajikistan. He was sentenced to 25 years in prison in Khordad 1397 SH at Detention Center No. 1 in Dushanbe city in a trial without the presence of journalists and behind closed doors, on charges of treason, attempting to overthrow the political system, and inciting religious, national, and racial differences[1].

Assassination

Finally, this Tajik scholar was assassinated by elements affiliated with ISIS on the evening of Sunday, 29 Ordibehesht 1398 SH. It should be noted that after his head was transferred by the forensic medicine of Tajikistan, it was sewn back onto his body and buried secretly by the government of this country without informing his family[2].
