Hussein Shehata was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt.


Biography

Born 1939 AD, in the city of Samannud, one of the western governorates of Egypt, he was a memorizer of the Quran and continued his education in 1962 AD at the Faculty of Commerce, Alexandria University, where he also taught. He received his Master's degree from Cairo University in 1969 AD, then traveled to England and received his PhD in Management Accounting from the University of Bradford England in 1976 AD. He returned from England and began working at the Faculty of Commerce, Al-Azhar University, where he took charge of the Accounting Department and became interested in Islamic Economics there, becoming one of the pioneers of his time in this field. He taught the sciences of Islamic Accounting Thought and Zakat Accounting at Arab and Islamic universities and participated in many international conferences and seminars in the fields of accounting, Islamic economic thought, Zakat, Islamic banks, Islamic investment companies, and Waqf.


Activities

He taught the sciences of Islamic Accounting Thought and Zakat Accounting at Arab and Islamic universities, and in this regard, he engaged in the following activities:

  • Expert accountant, accounting expert, auditing and Zakat.
  • Financial and legal advisor to financial and Islamic institutions.
  • Advisor to Zakat institutions and funds in the Islamic world.
  • Advisor to the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Institutions in Bahrain.
  • Member of the International Shariah Committee for Zakat Kuwait.
  • Member of the Islamic Economics Association Egypt.
  • Member of the Higher Council of the Trade Union Federation Egypt.
  • Secretary-General of the Section for Employed Accountants and Auditors.

Hussein Shehata became acquainted with the Brotherhood after returning from England by invitation, and there he became an actual member of this group and one of its prominent leaders, and a member of the Economic Committee of the Freedom and Justice Party after its establishment in 2011 AD, and remained in this position until his death.


Death

Dr. Hussein Shehata was infected with the Coronavirus virus and suffered from it for a period until he died on Tuesday, 22 Ramadan 1442 AH, corresponding to 4 May 2021 AD.
