Temel Karamollaoğlu (born 7 June 1941) is a Turkish politician, engineer, and the chairman of the Felicity Party. He was elected as the chairman of the party at the 6th Ordinary Congress of the Felicity Party held on 30 October 2016. He served as a Member of Parliament between 1977–1980 and 1996–2002. He also served as the Mayor of Sivas between 1989 and 1995. Before entering politics, he worked as a textile industry expert at the State Planning Organization. He became the Felicity Party's presidential candidate in the 2018 Turkish presidential election.


Biography

Temel Karamollaoğlu is originally from the village of Göbekören, one of the villages in the Gürün district of Sivas. He was born on 7 June 1941 as one of the seven children of Üzeyir and Münire Karamollaoğlu.


Education

After completing his primary and secondary education in various cities due to his father's teaching duties, he received a scholarship from the University of Manchester in 1960 and went to England. He completed his undergraduate degree in 1964 and graduated with a master's degree from the University of Manchester in 1967.


Marriage

Karamollaoğlu married Ayşe Yasmin in 1965 and has 5 children.


Professional Activities

Karamollaoğlu returned to Turkey in 1967 and started working as an expert at the State Planning Organization. He also worked as a textile industry expert in this organization between 1967 and 1972.


Socio-political Activities

In 1977, he was elected as the Sivas deputy from the National Salvation Party and became the representative of Turkey in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. In 1978, he was elected as a member of the party's General Assembly.

Karamollaoğlu was elected as the Mayor of Sivas from the Welfare Party in 1989. He entered the parliament as the Sivas deputy from the Welfare Party in the 1995 general elections. During this term, he was elected as the vice chairman of the Welfare Party group and held this responsibility until the dissolution of the Welfare Party. After the Welfare Party was dissolved by the Constitutional Court, he joined the Virtue Party and was again elected as a deputy from Sivas in the 1999 elections. At the Felicity Party congress held in May 2000, Karamollaoğlu was elected as a member of the General Executive Board and was appointed as the Vice Chairman of Foreign Relations.


Presidency of the Felicity Party

On 24 October 2016, he was elected as the trustee of the Felicity Party by the High Advisory Council, and at the 6th General Congress of the Felicity Party held on 30 October 2016, he was elected as the chairman of the Felicity Party with 871 votes out of 891 delegates. He was also re-elected as chairman at the 7th General Congress of the Felicity Party held on 3 November 2019.


Presidential Candidacy

Karamollaoğlu participated as a candidate in the 2018 Turkish presidential election and managed to secure 0.89 percent of the total votes cast.


Defense of Resistance

Karamollaoğlu is a supporter of the Resistance Front and believes that the Islamic world must fight against the usurper Israeli regime. He states regarding this: "Israel is a regime that has turned terror and oppression into a policy; therefore, this regime must be dealt with only through the language of force and power, as it does not understand the language of humanity and justice. If you have power, you can influence Israel; otherwise, it is just talk and nothing else can be done." [1] In response to the visit of "Isaac Herzog", the head of the Zionist regime, to Ankara, he called on Muslims in all 81 provinces of the country to protest against this issue. He issued a tweet asking the people of Turkey to stand with the oppressed nation of Palestine by protesting this visit. Karamollaoğlu trended the hashtag #OneMinuteErdoğan by recalling the protest of "Recep Tayyip Erdoğan" against "Shimon Peres" and said, "What are the oppressors doing in Turkey!" [2]
