Ahmed bin Ali Al Sheikh Abi Bakr bin Salem (1793–1875 AD), known by the nickname "Mogné Moukou," was a political and military leader and the ruler of Bambao on the island of Grande Comore.[1]

Lineage

Ahmed bin Ali Ghum bin Saleh bin Ali bin Saleh bin Ahmed bin Al-Hussein bin Al-Sheikh Abi Bakr bin Salem bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman bin Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Saqqaf bin Muhammad Mula al-Dawla bin Ali bin Alawi al-Ghayur bin Al-Faqih al-Muqaddam Muhammad bin Ali bin Muhammad Sahib Mirbat bin Ali Khali' Qasam bin Alawi bin Muhammad bin Alawi bin Ubaydallah bin Ahmed al-Muhajir bin Isa bin Muhammad al-Naqib bin Ali al-Uraydi bin Ja'far bin Muhammad (al-Sadiq) bin Muhammad bin Ali (al-Baqir) bin Ali Zayn al-Abidin bin Al-Hussein bin Imam Ali bin Abi Talib. Imam Ali was the husband of Fatimah bint Muhammad (al-Zahra), the daughter of Muhammad bin Abdullah (Khatam al-Anbiya), peace be upon him and his family.

He is the thirty-second descendant of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, peace be upon him and his family.

Birth and Upbringing

He was born in Moroni on the island of Grande Comore in 1793. His mother, "Moana Metta," was the daughter of Sheikh Ismail and of Arab origin. At the age of three, he migrated with his father from Moroni to Mutsamudu, the capital of the island of Anjouan. He grew up in Mutsamudu until he reached adulthood. He married the daughter of Sultan Alawi bin Hussein Shirazi. After his father's death, he traveled to the island of Grande Comore to claim his right according to the customs and traditions of the island.

Ascension to Power

He returned to Grande Comore around 1813. It is evident that, according to the island's traditions, he was entitled to the kingship of the Bambao region of Grande Comore. Furthermore, his father, who was wealthy, had left him funds that enabled him to seize power. He utilized these financial resources to capture the cities of Moroni and Ikoni without difficulty, thereby becoming the Sultan of the Bambao region. At that time, the island of Grande Comore was divided into nine regions, each ruled by its own king.

Sultan Ahmed Mogné Moukou conducted numerous military campaigns. To establish kinship and closeness with the ruling dynasties of Grande Comore, he married daughters from these families. Following these efforts, he acquired the title "Tibe" in the same year, 1813. However, this honorary title did not remain with him until his death, as Sultan Musa Fumo assumed this position around 1868.

Death

He died in August 1875 AD and was buried in Moroni, the capital of the island of Grande Comore.
