Ibn Seena Academy (Orlando) Ibn Seena Academy is an institute in Orlando, Florida area to provide the Qur’an and Islamic studies for students.[1]

Mission

The mission of Ibn Seena Academy is to seek the pleasure of our Creator by providing students of all religious backgrounds with a high quality education while instilling firm moral and ethical values so that they will become productive, upstanding citizens.

History

In August of 2003, Ibn Seena Academy opened its doors to the children of the Greater Orlando area. This Academy is unique because it offers a full academic curriculum together with a practical study of the Quran and Islamic Studies.

Many parents have told us that they want their children to study the Holy Quran but they find it difficult to send them away from home. Other parents have indicated that they do not want to completely sacrifice their child's secular education while he or she is studying the Quran. We realized that there was a great need for a unique academy such as Ibn Seena Academy - one that will prepare our children for the Dunya and also for the Akhira. Ibn Seena Academy provides an environment where these children can be nurtured in an Islamic environment, free of drugs & the other evils of modern society.

Aim

They say:

The goal of our academy is to teach the understanding of the Holy Quran while providing a sound academic curriculum in an Islamic environment so that our students will, Insha Allah, be successful in this world and in the Akhira. We offer classes in Quran, Arabic language, Islamic Studies, Mathematics, Science, Language Arts, and Social Studies. Our academic levels range from Grades Pre K through 8th. We offer a strong, proven, academically challenging curriculum. Our middle school curriculum is designed to exceed the Next Generation Florida Sunshine State Standards. Our teacher-led curriculum covers all subject areas required by the Florida Department of Education. These courses are taught by instructors who are certified in the subject area being taught.

As Muslims, we know that there are no more messengers coming to remind the people. It is therefore our responsibility to teach this Deen, first to our family and then to the rest of mankind. Our children will be the doctors, engineers, scientists, and other professionals of tomorrow but they must also be trained in the Fara'id of Quran and the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). Our curriculum at Ibn Seena Academy has been designed with this in mind so that our students can develop the character and life skills, which will Insha Allah, ensure their success in both worlds.

Policy

Fingerprinting-Background Check Policy All applicants and newly hired teachers will be responsible for a negative expanded pre-employment criminal history background check inclusive of the electronic fingerprinting (Live Scan) process in compliance with Florida Statues, Section 1002.421, prior to beginning employment at Ibn Seena Academy. Standards of Ethical Conduct(Adapted from the Code of Ethics of the Education Profession in Florida and Principles of Professional Conduct for the Education Profession in Florida)

• 1. Our school values the worth and dignity of every person, the pursuit of truth, devotion to excellence, acquisition of knowledge, and the nurture of democratic citizenship. Essential to the achievement of these standards are the freedom to learn and to teach and the guarantee of equal opportunity for all.

• 2. Our primary concern is the student and the development of the student's potential. Employees will therefore strive for professional growth and will seek to exercise the best professional judgment and integrity.

• 3. Concern for the student requires that our instructional personnel:

• a. Shall make reasonable effort to protect the student from conditions harmful to learning and/or to the student's mental and/or physical health and/or safety.

• b. Shall not unreasonably restrain a student from independent action in pursuit of learning.

• c. Shall not unreasonably deny a student access to diverse points of view.

• d. Shall not intentionally suppress or distort subject matter relevant to a student's academic program.

• e. Shall not intentionally violate or deny a student's legal rights..

• f. Shall not harass or discriminate against any student on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, marital status, handicapping condition, sexual orientation, or social and family background and shall make reasonable effort to assure that each student is protected from harassment or discrimination.

• g. Shall not exploit a relationship with a student for personal gain or advantage.

• h. Shall keep in confidence personally identifiable information obtained in the course of professional service, unless disclosure serves professional purposes or is required by law.

• 4. Aware of the importance of maintaining the respect and confidence of colleagues, of students, of parents, and of the community, employees of our school must display the highest degree of ethical conduct. This commitment requires that our employees:

• a. Shall maintain honesty in all professional dealings.

• b. Shall not on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, national or ethnic origin, political beliefs, marital status, handicapping condition if otherwise qualified, or social and family background deny to a colleague professional benefits or advantages or participation in any professional organization.

• c. Shall not interfere with a colleague's exercise of political or civil rights and responsibilities.

• d. Shall not engage in harassment or discriminatory conduct which unreasonably interferes with an individual's performance of professional or work responsibilities or with the orderly processes of education or which creates a hostile, intimidating, abusive, offensive, or oppressive environment; and, further, shall make reasonable effort to assure that each individual is protected from such harassment or discrimination.

• e. Shall not make malicious or intentionally false statements about a colleague.

Training Requirement

All instructional personnel and administrators are required as a condition of employment to complete training on these standards of ethical conduct.

Reporting Misconduct by Instructional Personnel and Administrators

All employees and administrators have an obligation to report misconduct by instructional personnel and school administrators which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student. Examples of misconduct include obscene language, drug and alcohol use, disparaging comments, prejudice or bigotry, sexual innuendo, cheating or testing violations, physical aggression, and accepting or offering favors. Reports of misconduct of employees should be made in writing to Rehannah Hemmali, Principal. Reports of misconduct committed by administrators should be made in writing to Muhammad Chowdhury, Director. Legally sufficient allegations of misconduct by Florida certified educators will be reported to the Office of Professional Practices Services. Policies and procedures for reporting misconduct by instructional personnel or school administrators which affects the health, safety, or welfare of a student are posted on the employee bulletin board near the staff sign-in computer and on our Web site. Non-Discriminatory Policy

Ibn Seena Academy admits students of any race, gender or religion to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded or made available to its students and does not discriminate on the basis of race, gender or religion in administration of its educational policies, admissions, programs.

Islamic Studies

Ibn Seena Academy offers a very comprehensive Islamic Studies course. It is important for our students to know where they came from. It is even more important for them to know where they are going. For this reason, we put a great deal of emphasis on the quality of our Islamic Studies curricula. In order to satisfy the educational needs of the whole child, we offer a comprehensive curriculum that includes a strong Islamic Studies program and a strong secular program. Our Islamic Studies curriculum includes a study of the Quran. This course is designed for students who are functioning at any one of three levels: beginning, intermediate and advanced. The beginning course of study consists of the Dursul Quran Course which teaches our students to read the Arabic language. The intermediate stage is designed to develop fluency in the art of recitation of the Quran. It also includes a general study of the meaning of selected verses of the Quran. Our advanced students continue to perfect their recitation of the Quran with proper tarteel and tajweed. In addition, students go deeper into the tafseer of the Quran.

Secular Studies

Ibn Seena Academy uses a college-preparatory curriculum that empowers our students to become the brilliant minds of the future. Our goal is to prepare our students for success in this life and success in the hereafter. We offer a strong curriculum that is designed to exceed the Next Generation Florida Sunshine State Standards. This curriculum is delivered by a set of highly qualified teachers here at Ibn Seena Academy. The quality of this curriculum and the strength of our instructional staff are confirmed when our students take the annual Terra Nova exams, one of the most rigorous standardized exams in the nation. Our students come out with top scores, many of which are in the top ten percentile. Our curriculum is carefully planned to include courses that will ensure success on standardized measures such as the SAT. Our middle school graduates transition easily into a pre-IB program. We employ an advanced use of technology is the classroom; this gives our students an advantage over their peers and ensures their preparedness for the Information Age.
