Exile of Imam Khomeini

Following the approval of the Bill of Judicial Immunity for American Military and Advisors, known as "Capitulation", Imam Khomeini in November 1964 condemned the approval of that bill and considered it against Islam, the Quran and the Constitution, and considered foreigners, especially the United States, as the cause of Iran nation misery and all the Muslim nations of the world.

And he asked the people, scholars and all the religious leaders of the world not to remain silent against these actions. He announced that he will give a speech on November 4th to expose the betrayal of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. When the government authorities found out about his decision, they sent a person named Hassan Mostofi to Qom to stop Imam Khomeini from doing this, but he refused to meet with him. On the fourth day of Aban,( November 4th)  Imam Khomeini gave a detailed speech in his house in the  Yakhchal  Ghazi neighborhood to the students, academics and other people and outlined the bill and explained its content, which caused enthusiasm and movement in the seminaries and the people.

The Pahlavi regime, which had the experience of the 15th of Khordad incident in 1963 , and knew that it could not reduce people's protests with imprisonment and torture, decided to separate and exile the leader of these protests from the people. Following this decision, on the night of the 13th of Aban 1343 AH,(4th  Nov 1964) armed commandos surrounded Imam Khomeini's house in Qom and transferred him to Mehrabad airport, and from there he was sent to Turkey by an army air force plane along with two security forces.

And on the 13th of Aban, the news came to the public's attention from the press and radio. The Intelligence and Security Organization of the country (SAVAK) also confirmed Imam Khomeini's exile to Turkey in an official statement and announced the reason for his actions against national interests and security, but Imam Khomeini addressed Colonel Afzali who was accompanying him inside the plane. He considered his exile as defending the independence of the homeland. This exile caused reactions.Exile of Imam Khomeini (PBUH) to Türkiye, Imam Khomeini Portal.[2]

Student day

While the Islamic Revolution of Iran under the leadership of Imam Khomeini was approaching the fateful days, all classes of people were trying to fulfill their historical role and fulfill the divine mandate. In the meantime, the students were in a different mood. On the morning of November 4, 1978, while the schools were closed, the students marched towards Tehran University to voice their protest to the Shah and his supporters.

These young people entered the university in groups and gathered together with university students and other groups of people. At 11 o'clock in the morning of the same day, the officers fired several rounds of tear gas into the protesting crowd, but the gatherings, while breathing hard, raised their voices and shouted slogans "Death to the Shah",  and the armed officers of the Shah were so scared.

At this time, shooting started and 56 innocent youths were martyred and hundreds of others were injured, but the students did not stop chanting. This day in the history of the Islamic Revolution is named as Student's Day to honor the memory of student martyrs.

Reactions

When Imam Khomeini found out about the crime of the Shah's mercenaries, he said in a message: "Be patient, my dear ones, because the final victory is near and God is with the patient." Today, Iran is the place of free people. I am looking forward to you from this  far distance. I will make the world hear the voice of your desire for freedom and independence. Capture the spy nest

At the beginning of the Islamic Revolution and the time of the Provisional Government, university students decided to occupy the American Embassy with the aim of forcing America to return the Shah and the property of the Iranian nation. Students from Tehran University, Polytechnic University, Sharif Industrial University, Shaheed Behest University, etc. gathered and during a march to the American Embassy, they climbed the walls of the embassy and despite the resistance of the guards and the Americans, they took over the embassy completely.

During the capture of the embassy, the Americans quickly destroyed many documents of their interference, aggression and looting, but after the capture of the embassy, the remaining documents were quickly prevented from being destroyed, and later the documents obtained from the American spy nest were printed and published and were available to everyone.

As soon as this news was released, many people gathered in front of the spy nest with anger and disgust and supported the students' movement. In a message, Imam Khomeini called this movement the second revolution and bigger than the first revolution. This movement of the protesting students provoked the anger of the Americans and they, who were unable to understand an independent and freedom-loving nation, took measures against the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Among these measures were putting pressure on international organizations such as the United Nations, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Security Council, etc., creating a negative propaganda atmosphere against Muslim students, and  also some other actions. But after being fruitless, they turned to more serious measures; including the complete severance of political relations on 12 Oct 1980, the military attack on Iran and the encroachment on our country's territory, which led to their disgraceful defeat in the Tabas desert. And also the economic blockade and blocking of Iran's assets and properties, etc., none of which has so far affected the determination of the Iranian nation to confront global cruelty and injustice and its main source in the world, that is the arrogance of the world and the United States.

Reactions

Imam Khomeini, approving the movement of the students to take over the American embassy, said: I have said many times that hostage taking by our activist Muslim students is a natural reaction to the injuries that our nation has suffered from America. The Muslim and militant students who occupied the spy nest, with their revolutionary act, dealt a big blow to the validity of America and made our nation proud.

The conspiracy and espionage center in the name of the American embassy and the people who have conspired against the Islamic movement there do not have political and international respect... We do not consider this place  an embassy; And not those people who are there, we know them as ambassadors and members of the embassy, or as diplomats... This is a spy center, they are all spies and criminals, and the criminals should be trial in this country.

People's support

After the occupation of the American embassy by Muslim students following the line of the Imam on November 4, 1979, people gathered in front of the American embassy and supported their revolutionary action. By supporting the students' revolutionary action, they demanded the return of Mohammad Reza Pahlavi and condemned its conspiracies by chanting slogans against America.

Although many people were asked to disperse, on the 5th of  Nov 1979, the mass population was so crowd that the movement of cars on the street leading to the embassy were slow.

The French-language Tunisian newspaper wrote about this matter as follows: It will be recorded in the pages of history that Iran's revolutionary government was able to confront the biggest world power and disrupt its war plans for the release of the hostages.

Al-Thorah newspaper, published in Damascus, also wrote: America's kneeling in front of the demands of the Islamic Revolution of Iran goes beyond the issue of freeing Iran's deposits; Because America was forced to sign a document behalf of  its president, according to which, it will not interfere in Iran's internal affairs in any way. This is a great reason why nations are able to wrest their rights from the most stubborn and powerful imperialist government.

Imam Khamenei said about the capture of the spy nest: Their embassy, which was later introduced as a spy nest which was really a spy nest - became the center of organizing opponents of the revolution and enemies of the revolution to go there and get orders to work against the revolution and the new government . They accepted Mohammad Reza in America, who was a fugitive from Iran, and gave him shelter as a guest.

They didn't return the properties that Mohammad Reza had with himself and which were worth billions of dollars that he had invested in America... The occupation of the spy nest was to let the American regime know that this revolution cannot be joked with. The revolution of this nation and this country is not one of those revolutions that tolerate conspiracies.

Achievements of capturing the spy nest

The capture of the American espionage nest left important effects on the foreign policy of Iran and the United States, the international situation of Washington, and the domestic scene of Iran. For example, it brought Iran-US relations to a standstill, and the international situation of the United States faced a 444-day crisis.

And the release  of spy documents obtained from the spy nest, distorted the global image of America. Also, Iran's domestic scene changed for the benefit of Imam Khomeini's values and positions and took on a new face.Capturing  the spy nest (November 13), Tehran Islamic Development Office.[4]
