==Biography==
Sayyid Mohammad Khatami was born on 13 October 1943 CE, in the city of Ardakan, Yazd Province. His father was Ayatollah Sayyid Ruhollah Khatami, a learned scholar and one of the famous and reputable clerics of Yazd, founder of the Ardakan Seminary and Friday Prayer Imam of Yazd.

==Education==
Khatami completed his elementary and secondary education in Ardakan and learned some of the preliminaries from his father, and then went to [[Qom]] to study religious sciences, and received his high school diploma in the same year. In 1969 CE, he received a Bachelor's degree in Western Philosophy from the University of Isfahan, and in 1970 CE, he continued his studies at the [[University of Tehran]] in the field of Educational Sciences up to the Master's level. In 1980 CE, he went to Qom again and studied advanced lessons in Fiqh and Usul and the higher course of Philosophy in the presence of Ayatollahs [[Morteza Haeri|Morteza Haeri Yazdi]], [[Hossein Vahid Khorasani|Vahid Khorasani]], [[Sayyid Musa Shubayri Zanjani]], [[Morteza Motahhari|Martyr Morteza Motahhari]], and [[Abdullah Javadi Amoli]]. ==Activities==
During his student days at the University of Isfahan, he was a member of the Board of Directors of the Islamic Association and in the years 1962 CE and 1963 CE, in addition to political struggles against the Pahlavi regime, he was present.
