Salah Bardawil was born on 24 August 1959, in the [[Khan Yunis]] refugee camp in the south of the [[Gaza Strip]], into a Palestinian refugee family originally from the occupied village of Al-Jura in the [[Gaza Strip]] district.

He completed his primary and secondary education in schools in [[Khan Yunis]] and then graduated in 1982 with a bachelor's degree in [[Arabic language]] from the Faculty of Dar al-Ulum at Cairo University. He completed his master's degree in Palestinian literature at the Institute of Arabic Studies and Research in [[Cairo]] in 1987, and obtained his doctorate in the same field in 2001 from [[Sudan]].

He began his academic activity in 1985 as an elementary school teacher, and then between 1990 and 1993, he worked as a lecturer at Al-Aqsa University, from where he transferred to teach at the Islamic University of Gaza.
