Jihadi John (English: Jihadi John), whose real name was Mohammed Emwazi, was an executioner for Islamic State. A title given by the media to one of the members of the ISIS group. He was born in Kuwait and after living in the city of London, England, he migrated and joined the group known as the "Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant". He appears in a number of beheading videos published by this group. The title Jihadi John was given to this person by some released hostages who claimed that he was responsible for a terrorist cell named "The Beatles" and was tasked with communicating with the families of foreign hostages. This person's alias is taken from the name John Lennon, a member of the English rock group The Beatles. Other members of this cell were also named "Paul", "George", and "Ringo", whose names are taken respectively from other members of The Beatles group, Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr. The BBC stated on 26 February 2015 (7 Esfand 1393) that the real name of this executioner is Mohammed Emwazi and he is from West London; United Kingdom security services had previously identified him but did not wish to disclose his identity for operational reasons. The International Centre for the Study of Radicalism at King's College London confirmed this identity.

Background
Jihadi John was born in Kuwait and had studied computer programming in London. He went to England at the age of six and settled in the West London area. He became radicalized when, following a trip to Tanzania, he was arrested and English intelligence officials accused him of attempting to go to Somalia. It is believed that he was an accomplice of a former British suspect who traveled to Somalia in 2006 and is said to have been involved in establishing and funding a network for the Somali militant group Al-Shabaab. He traveled to Syria in 2012. He is described as a quiet and polite individual who was interested in fashionable clothes.

In an email dated June 2010 published by The Washington Post and The Guardian, he wrote: "I was supposed to become a business owner and get married. I feel like a prisoner who is not imprisoned in a jail but in London. An individual who is imprisoned and security forces control him. They prevented me from starting a new life in my birthplace, i.e., the country of Kuwait."
