Ja'far Husayni Shirazi or Ja'far ibn Muhammad ibn Mahdi al-Husayni al-Shirazi (1970 AD to present) is a contemporary Shia cleric. He resides in the city of Qom in Iran and teaches advanced studies in Fiqh, Usul al-Fiqh, Usul al-Kafi, and Tafsir.

Family
He belongs to the "Shirazi" family and is the third son of the religious authority Sayyid Muhammad Shirazi after Sayyid Muhammad Rida and Sayyid Murtada. His grandfather is the religious authority Sayyid Mahdi Shirazi who was known in his time for his knowledge and piety, and his uncle is the religious authority Sayyid Sadiq Shirazi who currently resides in the city of Qom. The Shirazi family are among the leaders of opposition to the issue of unity and approximation.

Birth and Upbringing
He was born in the year 1390 AH in the city of Karbala, Iraq and spent nearly a year there, but after severe dangers and pressures exerted on his family, especially on his father and uncles in Iraq, they were forced to migrate to Kuwait and he spent his childhood years there.

Migration to Iran
At the beginning of the year 1400 AH, when his family moved to the city of Qom, Iran, he devoted his days to Hawza studies, and passed the introductory and advanced levels during his adolescence. His most important teachers at this stage were his brothers, Ahmad Payani, Sheikh Mustafa I'timadi, and Sheikh Muhammad Taqi Sutudeh.

Subsequently, he attended the advanced studies of his father and uncle and the Shia marja Sheikh Hussein Vahid Khorasani.

While teaching, researching, and maintaining academic connections with scholars, he continued his studies and research to the point where he wrote a book which was a profound discussion on principles (usul), and due to it, he received several permissions for ijtihad from scholars.

Migration to Syria
In the year 1415 AH, he migrated to Syria and took responsibility for the Zaynabiyyah Hawza. The same school that his uncle, the martyr Hassan Shirazi, had established.

Through his presence and teaching at that school and connecting with youth groups and people from various religious, ideological, political, and cultural sects, he caused the flourishing and growth of the school and the prosperity of studies and propagation activities in the region, and established and founded numerous cultural and religious institutions in Syria and elsewhere.

Return to Iran
He returned to the city of Qom and his migration coincided with the death of his father, the marja Sayyid Muhammad Shirazi, and his uncle Sayyid Sadiq Shirazi took over the affairs of the Shirazi family's marja'iyyah.

From the time of his return to Iran until now, he has been engaged in teaching advanced studies to students of religious sciences. He also broadcasts his speeches and scientific discussions via satellite networks.
